Hiya Markus, I'm afraid as you said, that's a question rather than a bug. Please either ask on the gentoo developer mailing list (gentoo-dev@gentoo.org, instructions at [1]), or ask your question on IRC (freenode servers, #gentoo-dev channel). My guess would be that given there are other methods of communication that work, maintaining a kernel module would cause more problems than it would be worth (breakages as new kernels are released). Gnokii also specifically recommend using the libusb method[2].
