you just updated mesa & xorg-server, this sounds like the white cube issue again.
Comment 2 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-25 22:01:44 UTC
Ok, I found it. It appears Gilles was referring to bug 148675, which suggests that compiz, mesa and xorg-server are using different versions of the glproto package.

Can you please ensure that you've recompiled mesa, xorg-server and compiz, and whether the problem still occurs?

Also, you appear to be using i810 as your video card. This was recently renamed to intel, so please run "emerge --sync", change your VIDEO_CARDS="i810" entry, and ensure that your xorg.conf mentions only 'driver "intel"' not 'driver "i810"'. Thanks... 5:)

The problem still occurs for me. I have VIDEO_CARDS="intel" and I synced before try.

I also re-emerged glproto.

I will try recompile completely Xorg and Compiz.

Nothing changed, I still get white screen.

Strangely with mm-sources (2.6.28) I can start Compiz without the blank screen.

Is this a workaround?

compiz is working good now. :)
