Description DEMAINE Benoît-Pierre, aka DoubleHP 2008-10-23 01:35:15 UTC
Recently, i stopped a revdep-rebuild process, and wanted to clean the cache files. As usual, i tried as root in it's ~ :
rm ~/.revd*
and it failed.

Fact is, a recent change in revdep is that cache are no more in /root, but in var, and, this is a very nice change.

But i would suggest that those cache files are mentionned in the man page, as for most other programs: the FILES section (which by the way has to be created) should contain a description about this. As for man portage, or man updatedb IE ...

I found the answer to my problem in revdep-rebuild -v: /var/cache/revdep-rebuild/

Standard output file may also provide a message like: "found cache files /var/cache/revdep-rebuild/ from previous execution; if you want to deny previous results, you should delete /var/cache/revdep-rebuild/*" even when not in verbose mode.

Thanks.

The latest version of "revdep-rebuild --help" includes the following:

-i, --ignore Ignore temporary files from previous runs

So it shouldn't be necessary to manually delete the revdep-rebuild files...

Yes, but still :) a FILES section could give details for free :)

Man page should indeed contain FILES section describing the cache, etc.
