On a hunch (again): what is your version of lua (useflags included) ? As suggested by Rafał, if the user's lua is 5.1.4-r1 built with USE="cxx", this bug is likely to be related to bug 234622. Juergen, please tell us about lua USE flags/version you have installed. He's already told it in his other bug (bug 242170). After reemerging lua with USE=-cxx I could also emerge wireshark. Thank you for the hint. Juergen I've pulled the cxx useflag. If it still doesn't work with plain lua-5.1.4, please reopen this bug.
