Description Rafael 2008-10-13 15:00:26 UTC
I've installed amarok-1.90-r1 but the interface was strange. I noticed that there were empty buttons, indicating that images were missing.
Doing some tests I discovered that installing kdebase-data solved the problem. It seems that amarok-1.90-r1 uses icons provided by this package. So, I think amarok-1.90 could depend on kde-base/kdebase-data. It took me some time installing different packages until I discovered which package I needed to install.

PS.: I don't know if the beta 2 version still uses those icons.

Reproducible: Always

Hi we are currently going throught some rethinks and one thing we came up is
that you allways should instal at least package "kdebase-startkde".

We will add this information into guide. Closing this as Fixed.
Reopen if you dont agree with our opinion.

Installing kdebase-startkde may solves the problem. However, I don't think it's a good solution to tell the install many packages which he my not need at all. It seem to be a real problem for people using other desktop environments, like me. I don't use KDE, I just want Amarok. In my case "emerge kdebase-startkde" would install 29 packages, and I don't know if Amarok really uses any of them.

I understand it's hard to find every dependency of each KDE package. But I wouldn't like to install packages I don't need and also have to waste time compiling them every time they are updated.

I also don't think only recommending the installation of a package in the documentation is enough. If a package "A" is needed for the correct working of package "B", then the "B" should depend on "A".

This is it, for now!
