According to similar bugs(225495), I tried adding  'append-cppflags -D_GNU_SOURCE' to the ebuild. But it didn't work. After some poking around, I could compile the offending file with the command

gcc -c -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE  -DLinux_2 -DOSNAME=Linux_2   -O2  -DLOCALEDIR=\"/usr/local/afbackup/common/share/locale\"  x_regex.c

Not sure how to fix this properly though. Hope this helps.
