As discussed here:

the samba ebuild will fail during configure if ldap is in the USE variable.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="ldap" emerge /usr/portage/net-misc/samba/samba-2.2.8a.ebuild


Actual Results:  
It fails during the configure step with a "summary failure".

Expected Results:  
Not done that.

The workaround is clear, but the ebuild should be fixed.

Removing ldap isn't exactly a workaround if you need samba to authenticate against 
ldap:)

attach config.log please from the build directory.  look in source/
if you cant find it.
