Xorg.0.log.old
xorg.log
I've exactly the same configuration and the same bug, only solution was to downgrade the xorg-server to 1.4.2 ... I've this error many times in my ~/.xsession-errors : The program 'gnome-panel' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadName (named color or font does not exist)'. (Details: serial 8101 error_code 15 request_code 45 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) I've recompiled all the font stuff but without success before downgrading the server. I have the same problem. But I'm using kde. Kwin 3.5, Firefox, Thunderbird does not start due to the BadName error. Kwin 4.1 starts, but there was another problem with mouse cursor. It disappear sometimes or is incorrect and in .xsession-errors is an message: "BadCursor (invalid Cursor parameter)" I've tried the SW cursor option in xorg.conf, but without success. # emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc8 (default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop, gcc-4.2.4, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r0, 2.6.26-gentoo-r1 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.26-gentoo-r1-x86_64-Intel-R-_Core-TM-2_CPU_T5500_@_1.66GHz-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Mon, 08 Sep 2008 05:30:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.1.6-r1 dev-lang/python: 2.5.2-r7 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 0.2.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r3 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.62-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.1-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.4 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.26 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=nocona -O2 -pipe" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/kde/4.1/env /usr/kde/4.1/share/config /usr/kde/4.1/shutdown /usr/kde/svn/env /usr/kde/svn/share/config /usr/kde/svn/shutdown /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=nocona -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--keep-going" FEATURES="distlocks metadata-transfer parallel-fetch preserve-libs sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch userpriv" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.mirror.web4u.cz/ http://gentoo.supp.name/" LANG="cs_CZ.utf8" LDFLAGS="" LINGUAS="cs" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/layman/arcon /usr/local/portage/layman/sunrise /usr/local/portage/layman/kdesvn-portage /usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi alsa amd64 apm berkdb bluetooth bzip2 cairo cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dri dts dvd dvdr dvdread emboss encode evo exif fam firefox flac foomaticdb fortran ftp gdbm gif glib gpm gstreamer hal htmlhandbook iconv ipv6 isdnlog jabber jpeg kde kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility kipi lcms ldap mad matroska midi mikmod mine mmx mmxext mng mp3 mpeg mudflap musepack ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg openal opengl openmp oracle oss pam pcmcia pcre pdf perl png posix pppd python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session slang sox spell spl sqlite sse sse2 ssl svg symlink tcpd theora threads tiff truetype unicode usb vcd vorbis wavpack wifi wmf xcomposite xinerama xml xorg xosd xv zlib" ALSA_CARDS="hda-intel" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" FOO2ZJS_DEVICES="oki3200" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="cs" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nv nvidia vesa" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LC_ALL, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS I've solved this issue by adding this Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Disable" Option "RENDER" "Enable" EndSection to xorg.conf and for now it works I had the same bug and solved it by removing almost all entries from the "Device" Section in xorg.conf, so it now looks like this: Section "Device" Identifier "CardNVIDIA" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "true" VideoRam 262144 EndSection I kept Compositing enabled and updated to nvidia-drivers-177.70 (hardmasked at the moment). Here I have the same problem, no decorations, one one desktop. I use xf86-video-ati 6.9.0 drivers, xorg-server 1.5.0, xorg-x11 7.4 I tried your both modifications to xorg.conf without success. Here's what kwin says if I run it in a console: $ kwin X Error: BadName (named color or font does not exist) 15 Major opcode: 45 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x1000003 X Error: BadFont (invalid Font parameter) 7 Major opcode: 94 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x1000003 X Error: BadCursor (invalid Cursor parameter) 6 Major opcode: 2 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x1000004 X Error: BadCursor (invalid Cursor parameter) 6 Major opcode: 2 Minor opcode: 0 Resource id: 0x1000004 kwin: X_ChangeWindowAttributes(0x1000004): BadCursor (invalid Cursor parameter) kwin: failure during initialization; aborting can you post your xorg.conf to verify the differences? thanks a lot Created attachment 165335 [details]

xorg.conf
This xorg.conf is for nvidia cards, so it will not work with your xf86-video-ati drivers without changing the Device Section.
in xorg-server 1.5.1 problem still exist I solved this problem with http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-709895-highlight-badname.html Ehm, it looks like backingstore is not anymore supported but just harmful, remove just the backingstore option and check (working with my nvidia configuration) Have any of you used nvidia-bug-report.sh and filed a bug upstream? Re-open once we get some upstream bug reports submitted. |
