Too true. It has had always issues, because of not staying in sync with Portage development and seems to have been abonadoned more or less. Heck, I don't understand why it ever has been marked stable at all. It's masked now and waiting for removal from the repository. hm, assign... (In reply to comment #1) > Too true. Here's the content of the email: I am a gentoo user and a dedicated user of kuroo (app-portage). You recently hardmasked this package saying that "It's broken and abamdoned." I can't really argue with the abandoned part, but it certainly is not broken and it is the best portage tool for KDE that we have. I know there's some issues with the newer testing versions of portage, but I manage to run a complete ~x86 environment at work with little trouble (certainly none caused by kuroo), and a (stable) x86 environment at home with absolutely no trouble. I didn't even know kuroo was abandoned until July, 7 months after it actually became abandoned because it has been so stable for me. I would like to contribute to it and I plan on contacting the developer behind it, I just haven't gotten around to it until now. Please take this off of the hardmask list, or at least explain a bit more about why you put it on the hardmask list. I can only find the three bugs on kuroo, one of which is about the old 80 version, one of which has a patch, and the third which references some 90 version that isn't even in portage. This shouldn't be removed because none of these bugs are valid. It's not right to punish all the people that have been Thank you, I hope you will respond soon. P.S. Your email address in the package.mask file is wrong (it reads carloqgentoo.org instead of carlo@gentoo.org), and you spelled abandoned wrong in the comment. Got your email Andrew, though I'd almost pushed it into my spam folder, because of missing subject. I don't have a lot of time to care for my Gentoo emails, in fact I've almost 200 unread messages at the moment, a share of them likely about more important topics, than Kuroo. No, I'm not taking it off the list of hard masked packages for now. We have some responsibility towards our user base and this especially, when we speak about a frontend to the central part of a Gentoo system, Portage. People potentially may hose their systems, using it. I've never been pleased about the status of this application, because of its questionable maintenance staus. I've finally took this bug to mask it, because there is no active development _team_ behind it - and by that I mean a team that is in regular contact with Portage developers, produces regular releases and testing versions ensuring compatibility with the latest Portage pre-releases. This is a long term job and not a light one, especially since Portage is still a quite imperfect tool. Regarding removal: I didn't wrote, I'm removing the package ASAP, but if there's no improvement to be seen, it's pointless to keep it. First of all we maintain a distribution, not the software we distribute. If you build a team, manage to keep this software in sync with Portage development, add features, porting to KDE 4 should happen one day; In short: actively develop this for now abandoned application - it's fine, masking it had a positive effect, then. Yes do i know that Kuroo is discontinued. The bug is only to inform that the version called in Portage 0,90_2007 is broken! the last working version is 0.81 RC1, This working. There is no 0.90 version in portage: http://packages.gentoo.org/package/app-portage/kuroo |
