I get the following:
$ desktop-file-validate nvidia-settings.desktop 
nvidia-settings.desktop: warning: key "Encoding" in group "Desktop Entry" is deprecated
nvidia-settings.desktop: warning: value "Application;System;" for key "Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" contains a deprecated value "Application"

amd64 stable is still unfixed

As I said previously, the issue is fixed in 304.22 and forward. You referenced 295.71.
