Description Daniele C. 2008-08-23 13:43:35 UTC
I have been using version 2.3.2 of the driver for at least a month now (I had used version 2.1.1 and version 2.3.1 previously), and I find it stable. I have an Intel 855GM graphics hardware

I humbly suggest to drop the old 2.x version if favour of at least a v2.3.x version because of the huge number of bugfixes in the most recent version, it is more stable a v2.2+ rather than a v2.1 to me.

Also with this version a lot of garbage messages in Xorg.0.log are not reported (they should not). I always collect them using version 2.1.1:

(II) intel(0): I2C bus "DVODDC_D" initialized.
(II) Loading sub module "sil164"
(II) LoadModule: "sil164"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//sil164.so
(II) Module sil164: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
	compiled for 1.3.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.2
(II) intel(0): I2C bus "DVOI2C_E" initialized.
(EE) intel(0): detecting sil164
(EE) intel(0): Unable to read from DVOI2C_E Slave 112.

I forgot to say: I had problems at enabling DRI using version 2.1.1 of the driver

Thing is, 2.3.2 has a _lot_ of bugs when not running on top of xorg-server 1.4.2. So until it's decided to ship 1.4.2 as stable, the current intel driver will stay.

As for debug messages in the driver, check out the man page at the ModeDebug option.

Thanks

I perfectly understand, I hope that Xorg 1.4 becomes stable soon so that I can use this driver.

About the log messages: they fixed it in version 2.2, I read it in the changelog, however it's just a minor annoyance.

Thanks
