Bug 233667 – media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20080326 doesn't give a version when queried

One program that I know of (nuvexport) queries ffmpeg to know what switches to use with it.  However, ffmpeg -version returns
"FFmpeg version UNKNOWN, Copyright (c) 2000-2008..."
is there a way in which that could be changed to reflect the actual version/subversion, so that the query would work? Thanks.
