Description Maciej Piechotka 2008-07-31 09:37:36 UTC
Is it possible to include app-office/openoffice-3.0_beta2 to portage (masked of course) or to some overlay?

Reproducible: Always

openoffice 3.0 beta2 ebuild

I updated a beta 1 ebuild by renaming several filenames.
It seems to work for me, but might work for you. But it's better than nothing...
Comment 2 Andreas Proschofsky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-06 10:37:25 UTC
Thanks, but this ebuild lacks in lots of ways (no LINGUAS, installs its own icons, no dictionary integration...), so it's really not usable.

Besides that: I'm working on an updated ebuild myself, still don't see the urgent need for it getting in the tree. Nobody ever asked for a beta ebuild of OOo 2.2, 2.3, 2.4... and to put this in perspective: 3.0 is plainly a relabled 2.5, there is nothing special about it / no huge changes in it.

Normally would resolve this as LATER, but as I guess more people will come around for the same stuff, leaving it open for future reference.
Comment 3 Michal Kurgan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-07 16:39:48 UTC
I don't know. From writer usability point of view there are to major features.
Cross-references to numbered lists, updated notes ui, and editing multiple page layout (quite crucial features if you ask me). I would be very happy to have these features in Gentoo.

If you have any work on progress i would be happy to test how it works.
Comment 4 vicin2003 2008-08-10 16:53:14 UTC
I would also like this since this version of openoffice works with the newest microsoft office-files while the current version in portage doesn't.
I consider this a major feature ( although I myself only use linux, I do live in a microsoft-dominated world and I get a lot of Microsoft-office documents from other people ).

The source based version in portage works perfectly fine with OOXML.
Comment 6 Chris Slycord 2008-08-12 16:44:50 UTC
Could someone edit the summary and title of this bug? The ebuild is clearly for app-office/openoffice-bin and not app-office/openoffice

To be honest I'd prefere to have an app-office/openoffice ebuild...

thanks for the info but it's not a solution for my problem. I get the newest microsoft office files ( *.docx ) from other people. I'm talking about many different people that are not very computer-handy. And in many cases it's not mail specific for me but for many people. So it would be close to impossible and definetly not practically doable to instruct all these people how to save their files as OOXML.....
So my ppoint stands.... this is a major new feature of 3.0....

Obviously there is a bit of a misunderstanding on your side: OOXML IS *.docx and company. So the current source based build (2.4.1) opens them whithout problems. This might be a new feature for the Sun builds in 3.0, but not for our own.

Tried and it did helped. Now only one target fails (also failed previously)
Interesting part:

mkdir ./unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/lucene-2.3.2/.
mkdir: cannot create directory `./unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/lucene-2.3.2/.': File exists
cd ./unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/lucene-2.3.2/. &&  -buildfile ./contrib/analyzers/build.xml  && touch /var/tmp/paludis/app-office-openoffice-3.0.0_beta2/work/ooo/build/ooo300-m3/lucene/./unxlngi6.pro/misc/build/so_built_so_lucene
/bin/bash: -buildfile: command not found
dmake: Error code 127, while making './unxlngi6.pro/misc/build so_built_so_lucene'

I would guess that configuration does not work well.

It seems that in order to build lucene you need to have dev-java/ant-core installed, as this -buildfile error is in fact this line:

makefile.mk:BUILD_ACTION= ${ANT} -buildfile .$/contrib$/analyzers$/build.xml
Comment 18 Gary Pampara 2008-08-28 07:11:50 UTC
The error with the compile seems to be related to Paludis. I have gotten the same error using paludis to compile the package. However, I'm now using portage to compile the package with zero errors so far. The build is not fully complete yet, but I cannot foresee any issues suddenly cropping up.

Mine was with portage.

I got the same build error. It went away by adding the java USE flag. Possible, this implicitly installs dev-java/ant-core. At least it is installed now.
Comment 21 Michal Kurgan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-29 15:25:28 UTC
I've installed dev-java/ant-core-1.7.0-r1, but still build fails with the same error in lucene. I'm using USE="-java" all the time, i still guess that is openoffice configuration problem.

Definitely, it is configuration problem. Lucene is a search engine written in Java, and USE="-java" should exclude it from build tree.
Comment 23 Michal Kurgan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-01 07:17:34 UTC
Ok, i should be more specific.
Java is disabled by ebuild, but still regardless of relevant configure script option, java based project(s) are build.

Please refer to the ebuilds in the tree if you want to help testing, both openoffice and openoffice-bin now have an rc1 ebuild.

proper amd64 installation

Current -bin ebuild fails for me on AMD64, so I've made an ebuild, that does not fail for me. :-)

Furthermore, the original ebuild installs binary files to '/usr/lib32/', when they are "ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, not stripped". IMO it's not right - changed this too.

There is also missing icon for a 'qstart'.

This ebuild hasn't been for x86 arch, so beware.

rc1 lucene and stax fail to build when USE=-java

Also USE="nsplugin" shouldn't require mozilla-firefox-3.x but only 2.x

Which is exactly what it does, take a look at the ebuild.

I currently don't have a machine where I could test the syntax...

Current is:
    nsplugin? ( || ( >=www-client/mozilla-firefox-2  <-- Also matches mozilla-firefox-3
        >=www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-2
        =www-client/seamonkey-1* ) )

I would change it to this:

    nsplugin? ( || ( >=net-libs/xulrunner-1.9
        =www-client/mozilla-firefox-2*
        >=www-client/mozilla-firefox-bin-2
        =www-client/seamonkey-1* ) )

Unfortunately the mozilla stuff is currently quite a mess :(

But those are RDEPENDs, no xulrunner stuff at all relevant here, just the browser to use the plugin. Build dependencies on the other hand should only need xulrunner. I guess the real problem here is that the stuff regarding mozilla in COMMON_DEPEND should be moved to DEPEND

Oh yes it is very much...

Ah.. this explains :)

But some of us use other gecko-based browsers like epiphany which also support nsplugin stuff. That's why I don't want to see firefox as explicit requirement for openoffice.

Actually I'm thinking about totally dropping the DEPEND part, cause OOo doesn't need any browser to run, you just need one to use the plugin. But I'm not too sure if there's some sort of Gentoo policy this might violate ;)

there's a "duplicate" of this bug (related to openoffice-bin) at #237657

Thanks for pointing this out, I've updated the ebuild in portage accordingly. Please test, don't have an amd64 around myself.

Installs and works OK for me, but the thing with 'qstart' icon still exists:

I know, will take care of that later, is non-harmful though. Anyway: Good that it works now :)
Comment 45 Matt 2008-09-15 21:01:05 UTC

it finally works now !

thanks a lot, Andreas :)

Same here on rc1. Trying again with java enabled. Should work without it though :(

Hi,

the rc1 doesn't work in i686 with LINGUAS="de" set, because the langpack dirname is "OOO300_m5_native_packed-2_de.9350" not "OOO300_m5_native_packed-3_de.9350".

That's something the ebuild currently in portage already takes care of, so I guess you are using a non-official ebuild (which you shouldn't)

Anyway: Closing this bug, please file bugs in seperate reports, this one was about the revision bump.
