Description Reinhard Wilhelm 2002-05-02 05:25:58 UTC
Hi all,

I think the following bug is a isolinux-bug. Allthough I ask you, because the
bug caused an boot failure and I have no chance to install gentoo linux - and
this is really tragic, because I need urgently a really fast linux for via
voice (based on java !) or for dragon speaking system (based on wine/windows).
My System is an AMD 400, ASUS P5A (Ali), SCSI (Symbios Logic) and two SCSI-CD-
ROMs from Pioneer and Philips. The flash bios are all actualised. Therefore I
think, I can`t more optimized the hardware-system.

When I boot from the gentoo-1a-linux-cdrom I got this message:

ISOLINUX 1.67 2002-02-03 isolinux: Disk error 00, drive F0
Boot failed: press a key to retry...

Is there a possibility to boot from diskette ?
I hope, you can help me and to hear from you. Many thanks

Reinhard

Please search the mailing lists for alternate ways to install Gentoo. There is
also an alternative install howto on www.gentoo.org. I know that there are at
least instructions on how to install Gentoo from an existing Linux distribution
and using a rescue floppy such as tomsrtbt. I will leave the bug open as an
indication that your hardware does not work with our boot CD, though.

Does other distro CD's boot fine ?
Comment 3 Mark Guertin 2002-10-05 10:55:16 UTC
Hmm again I think this may have to do with the old style boot CD... does the
1.4_rc1 boot cd stuffs work?

Please try the 121600 or later livecd at
http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd

This CD uses isolinux 2.0 (latest version) and may resolve your problem.
Comment 5 Bob Johnson (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-20 09:48:21 UTC
reopen if latest cd doesnt work
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:24:20 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
