See, you're mixing a testing firefox with an otherwise stable tree. There are lots of packages requiring FF 2 (or xulrunner). Not a bug. Turns out VLC has a dependency on Firefox 2. Is this necessary? Sorry to reopen the bug. I found that the problem is a hard coded dependency on Firefox 2 in the VLC ebuild. I removed VLC and the problem went away. Is the dependency necessary? I couldn't find a dependency list on the VLC website. Yes it is necessary. Many Gentoo users would recommend you add USE="xulrunner". However, in this case and in many others(OO.o), it doesn't work. I have found a workaround, so that you can keep FF3. Remove the firefox use flag, and add USE="seamonkey", this will make packages that depend on firefox, depend on seamonkey instead. Just run emerge seamonkey beforehand. |
