Description Arno Ekkes 2003-06-17 02:08:20 UTC
This new bugreport is a split off from bug #22576.
I can confirm that after updating to gtk+-2.2.2-r1 gdmsetup keeps crashing at
the login screen.
When I go back to gtk+-2.2.1 gdmsetup is working again.
It happens with the nvidia drivers from nvidia and the nv drivers from xfree.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge gtk+-2.2.2-r1
2.at the login screen from gdm try to configure
3.

Actual Results:
Gdmsetup crashs and the X server is restarted.

Expected Results:
Configure gdm from the login screen.

My emerge info is:
Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1)

And I'm using gdm 2.4.1.4, xfree 4.3.0-r3 and gtk+ 2.2.2-r1.

I just tested this and can indeed confirm that it crashes with gtk+-2.2.2-r1 (clicking on "configure" and "ok" restarts the X server and gdm), but this crash _does not_ occur with gtk+-2.2.1-r1. I've also tested version 2.4.1.3, 2.4.1.4, and 2.4.1.6 (finishing the ebuild now), and can confirm the behaviour with all versions.
Comment 2 Brad Laue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-11 08:40:01 UTC
Tested here with 2.4.1.3 and 2.4.1.4 and GTK+ 2.2.2-r1, confirming also that this occurs.
Comment 3 Mike Basinger 2003-08-12 11:26:24 UTC
I also have the same problem using gtk+-2.2.2-r1 with gdm 2.4.1.3 and 2.4.1.4.
Comment 4 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-28 10:05:50 UTC
unfortunately, no joy for me with gtk+-2.2.3. could at least one other with the same problem please report success/failure with 2.2.3 ? thanks
Comment 5 Brad Laue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-01 08:36:50 UTC
What versions of the nvidia driver are we all using?
Comment 6 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-01 09:32:32 UTC
1.0.4496 here
Comment 7 Brad Laue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-01 10:33:48 UTC
I've been having some serious Xv related trouble with that version of the driver - I've moved back to 4363 - can you check and see whether that version exhibits problems with the new GTK?
Comment 8 Arno Ekkes 2003-09-01 14:43:11 UTC
I have tried both versions of nvidia; 1.0.4363 and 1.0.4496.
And I can confirm the problem isn't solved.
Comment 9 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-01 15:52:45 UTC
this problem is not related to the nvidia drivers.
Comment 10 Brad Laue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-01 16:04:10 UTC
Ah, I inferred it from the bug this was said to stem from - is the cause known?
Comment 11 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-10 00:51:50 UTC
this is fixed for me using gtk+ 2.2.4 and gdm 2.4.16.

Comment 13 foser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-10 15:54:04 UTC
ok, turns out our debug support switch had some unwanted side effects. Please try gtk+-2.2.4-r1 and see if problems still persist.
Comment 14 Creede Lambard 2003-09-10 23:08:14 UTC
gtk+-2.2.4-r1 looks like it solves bug 25510. At least now I can open up the signature block without having Evolution crash or having to import a library from a different distro. Thanks!

foser, I'll let you mark the bug fixed if your other testing confirms this. Thanks again.
Comment 15 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-15 03:42:10 UTC
foser, this is fixed for me with 2.2.4-r1 (i compiled with debug off).
Comment 16 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-17 03:59:25 UTC
this has been fixed by foser with the debugging fixes.
