Summary: sys-fs/reiser4progs-1.0.6-r1 -p (preen) option does not seem to work properly
Product: Gentoo Linux Reporter: Volker Hemmann <volkerarmin>
Component: [OLD] Core systemAssignee: Gentoo's Team for Core System packages <base-system>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: normal CC: dusanc, roy

OS: Linux

Runtime testing required: ---

Description Volker Hemmann 2008-06-14 00:08:03 UTC
The new 'prune' function runs a complete fsck every single time. And if you use like compression, there is always to find and 'fix' something - even if it is not really broken.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge reiser4progs-1.0.6-r1
2. have -p in the fsck-init script
3. have reiser4 partitions with compression

Actual Results:
see fireworks!

Expected Results:
nothing should happen at all.

Answer from a developer about finding something to fix which isn't really broken when using reiser4+cryptocompress:
"Yes, the kernel doesn't support i_bytes and i_blocks of compressed files
(because of performance reason), but fsck expects this to be set properly.
The option -n suppresses the screams.."
:)

I suggest a comment is added to the reiser4 ebuilds saying that fsck_args="-a" should be used until resier4 fsck helper is fixed properly.

The default prune option is staying.
