Description REdOG 2003-06-09 22:18:44 UTC
useing gentoo-ppc-1.4_rc7-kde.iso verified md5 and burned several copys.
On a G4 powerbook 800mhz 512ram
Im unable to run alot of commands mostly binarys, upon issueing a command the
controling terminal(have only tryed on local console) will hang. offending
commands are not listed in ps entrys and they are also not escapeable with a
ctrl-c ctrl-d. kill -9 -1 resets all tty's well enough to try again. After
extended sessions shell commands sometime become quite bothersome also, tab
completion attempts will hang as well. I am able to procede just fine with
gentoo-ppc-1.4_rc6-120403.iso

what commands are you talking about?

This could be a kernel problem. (related to the page_alloc.c oops we keep getting)
imho this kernel doesn't work correctly when no swwap is installed. kainz: Are there any newer versions available?

Pieter

could you test rc8 or later livecds (rc8 is currently available from http://dev.gentoo.org/~pvdabeel/ppc-livecd/ )
this cd is not X enabled, (main purpose is to test the quality of the kernel on it for future livecd releases)

please reopen when not working
