I have the same problem. I suspect this is a duplicate of this bug: 215798. I've been looking into it a little bit, and I'll soon post some information to bug #215798. From the output you posted in the other bug, it looks like this has nothing to do with the installer. The read-only file system is the Live install DVD. Although / is writable, /var/db is a symlink to /usr/livecd/db, which is a read-only file system (/usr is a symlink to /mnt/livecd).
