Bug 223013 – dev-util/eclipse-sdk-3.3 (and binary from eclipse.org) have 20sec pause on opening any file

dev-util/eclipse-sdk-3.3.1.1-r1 with

* x11-libs/gtk+
Latest version available: 2.12.8

using 32bit and 64bit versions of eclipse I get a consistent 20sec pause when opening any file in eclipse 3.3

Note: eclipse doesn't hang or crash, every editor window or tab is just very slow to open.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. eclipse-3.3
2. try to open a file in the editor (e.g. File -> open)
3. wait 20sec or more
4. repeat with a file that hasn't been opened in eclipse since you started it

Actual Results:  
edit eclipse.ini to add the vmarg

-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.disablePrinting

fixes this problem, though I don't know what triggered it, as I haven't updated eclipse or gtk+ recently.


Expected Results:  
No time thieving gremlins in evidence.

Side effect: Printing is disabled.

Maybe it's looking for a network printer and is having DNS trouble on top?

    actually run

    /etc/init.d/avahi-daemon stop

    and you can see the editor open as the service stops.

    The above is a fix that allows printing. (if you don't use a zeroconf printer,
    I guess)

     net-dns/avahi-0.6.22-r1

    was the only gtk+ connected thing that my logs say I upgraded lately.

    I guess this is now a bug in avahi? Sorry if this is no longer a relevant bug
    for gentoo.

Actually I think its cups-1.3.7-r1, as uninstalling avahi doesn't do the trick.

This Eclipse version is obsolete and removed from tree. Closing.
