Description Moritz Moeller 2008-05-06 00:19:32 UTC
Hello there,

please find attached 3delight-7.0.0.ebuild and a few files the ebuild needs.

3Delight is a fast, high quality, RenderMan®-compliant renderer designed to produce photo-realistic images. It is primarily used to produce feature film visual effects. For more info and a list of film credits, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3Delight

3Delight is a commercial product. However, the first license (2 threads) is free (as in beer), including commercial work. The ebuild contains instructions on how to obtain a free license.

I suggest media-gfx/3delight

Oh, I forgot. After emerging the ebuild you can quickly test if the renderer is working by running:

  source /etc/profile
  renderdl -test

If the license server isn't running, the image will have a watermark.

For a more elaborate test:

  source /etc/profile
  cd $DELIGHT/examples/subsurface
  shaderdl simple.sl
  renderdl -d teapot.rib

LICENSE="3Delight" <-- 3Delight does not exist in /usr/portage/licenses/ - please copy or supply a lic file during emerge.

There is no license text for 3Delight at this stage. There is none shipping with product and and there is license agreement anywhere found on the website as well.
I'll contact them and see what they have to say.

What if there really is no license text (the developers are Canada but the company headquarters are in Singapore -- maybe the just don't care?)

This license is what they supply with their OSX and Windows builds. I guess they just forgot to include it in the Linux package.

(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug)
'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached
to this bug.
This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the
main tree.
Heuristics show that no Gentoo developer has commented on your ebuild.

Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild
submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely
manner. There are simply too many new packages.

Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The
sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to
commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry
into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this
and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =)

Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us.
We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time.

Thanks,
On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team,
Jeremy.
