Description Alon Bar-Lev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-05-02 15:00:48 UTC
Hello,
I just tried to installed grub-1.96, I liked the idea it was slotted, but I then found out the files conflict, so this really isn't slotting.
Alon.

Can you provide a patch? It's not really maintained and it's a convenience thing that we expect people to provide a patch.

Well... I could not make it work for me...
Used VMWare with ATA configuration.
Tried to load all kind of modules, but I don't see any new commands available in the menu...
So I will wait for next release.

Succeeded in make current grub CVS work.
As far as I can see the command conflict is due to upstream usage, slotting this without upstream intention would be difficult.
We can install binaries with version suffix, and develop eselect module for grub to create proper link.
But this is too much work.

I suggest drop the slot.

dropped the SLOT ... hacking apart the install/build system is ugly and not maintainable
