x11-libs/cairo-1.5.14 needs >=x11-libs/pixman-0.9.6, or at least that's what configure thinks:

(...)
checking for pixman... no
configure: error: pixman >= 0.9.6 is required

Currently it depends on >=x11-libs/pixman-0.9.4, and I have 0.9.5 installed.

Nothing but 0.9.6 has been in the tree since January 31st.. Two months before you filed this and long before cairo-1.5.14 was in the tree.

Do you just cherry pick ebuilds and not update your system?

Either way, cairo-1.5.16 has been in the tree and should be used instead..

I have however fixed this.

Ah, I had keyworded =x11-libs/pixman-0.9.5, and the newer versions were never stabilized, so they were never pulled in. I've done many world updates between now and January.
