I just attempted to compile openoffice-2.4.0 and got the following error:

Do you have some kind of cleanup-script running, which might interfere with /var/tmp ?

The problem disappeared about a month ago. Sorry, not sure what exactly I upgraded to fix the issue. I guess, we could close the bug.
