Expected Results:  
Digest verification is OK and package emerges.

Out of curiosity, the official webpage for foo2zjs recommends NOT to install the driver through portage, and to follow their directions instead. Why is that?

I get an RMD160 verification failure with http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/firmware/sihp1020.tar.gz

This works with hp1020 flag now.

Problem fixed with HP 1000.
