Description junmin 2008-03-09 06:56:13 UTC
every tiem i try to open howtoforge.org, firefox just crashes, close without any warning. tried firefox-bin which crashes in the same way.

i have been search this problem in google, no solution, looks like a bug of X.
and i have been asking some friend, they told me howtoforge.org is working without problem

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open firefox-bin in command line
2. just try to open howtoforge.org

Actual Results:
junmin@thinking ~ $ firefox-bin
No running windows found
The program 'gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 35483 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
firefox-bin exited with non-zero status (1)

Works perfectly fine here as well; emerge -pv xorg-server output please.

Any chance you've got xorg-server built with nptl off and media-libs/mesa built with nptl on?

nope, both with nptl off.

That bug really looks like a dupe of 213841. If you could try the patch linked in comment 7, that'd be great. I know that patched fixed the issue on my Intel laptop (I see you also have the i810 driver installed).

Thanks
