The current /etc/cron.daily/syslog.cron uses the perlscript /usr/sbin/syslogd-listfiles and the debianutils utility 'savelog'. A user created a replacement cron script that don't need either perl nor debianutils.

That should also drop perl dependencies whith is fine for embedded.
