Slotting things just because upstream removed some features in a new version and users dislike the changes would become a maintenance hell pretty fast. You need to complain upstream, instead of asking us to slot something that's not designed nor supposed to be slotted in the first place. Hi Maxim, Thanks for your inquiry. This issue has come up in the past for vtk. Like for vtk, we won't be able to support slotted paraview ebuilds. There are two main reasons (1) paraview is not designed to be slotted, hence it would require a significant amount of work on our part to make sure two major versions can coexist without any problems. (2) maintaining two major versions for paraview would effectively double the amount of work for the devloppers in terms of maintenance/bug-fixing for an already very complex package. I'd rather spend time making the existing ebuild better. E.g., we recently added improved support for OpenFOAM. That said, if there's a feature that has not been ported from paraview-2.* please contact upstream and ask them to look into it. I will close this bug as INVALID but please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions/concerns. cheers, Markus |
