Ok, this is an *optional* dependency, but very useful, and for me, indispensable:
sys-libs/libfreebob (http://freebob.sourceforge.net), a library for connecting IEEE1394 (FireWire) BeBoB devices.

Enclosed is a patch for jack-audio-connection-kit ebuild and an ebuild for sys-libs/libfreebob-1.0.3

hmm latest libfreebob is 1.0.7, is there a problem with this version ?

I have no hardware to test this with, if any other dev out there has something, we could add it easily..

ok now some basic comments (based on libfreebob 1.0.7):
- couldn't mmx & sse be made useflags ?
- a debug useflag could be good too for a configure switch
- I'd prefer using --disable-optimize in econf call so that it doesn't use its hardcoded cflags but rather user set cflags in make.conf

Oh, sorry, my bad... The last time I looked it was 1.0.3... Which seems to be *quite* a long time ago. Again, I'm sorry about that, I should have checked updates first.

If testing is needed, I have a CME UF-400e Firewire expansion board on a CME UF5 Midi-keyboard, which has worked fine with all versions of libfreebob.

libfreebob-1.0.11 is out since 2008-04-11 :

Simply rename libfreebob-1.0.7.ebuild into libfreebob-1.0.11.ebuild and remplace SRC_URI="mirror://sourceforge/freebob/${P}.tar.bz2" with SRC_URI="mirror://sourceforge/freebob/${P}.tar.gz"

Works fine with my Edirol FA66 :)

libfreebob is obsoleted by ffado[1] according to the webpage

it's a different story how jack-audio-connection-kit will play with ffado though

libffado compatbile jack-audio-connection-kit ebuilds can be found in the proaudio overlay. This bug is obsolete. Could somebody please close it?
