gnome-power-manager-display_timeout.patch
I don't think it's relevant to change that setting at distro level. It's purely something that's up to each and every user. Personnaly I set it very low even on my desktop but my father for example just want it to stay on forever. The problem is that backlight gets older losing brillance. For example, I have seen how some TFT LG monitors lost a lot of brillance because of not putting monitors to sleep. I think that a lower value would be better for monitors lifetime :-), I know that this can be modified by each user, but, on my laptop, we are 9 users, and it is a bit hard modify this setting for each one. Also, I think that most of people would prefer preserve backlight as much as possible :-) one possible solution : GConf mandatory keys. Try to understand that we try to provide Gnome packages as upstream intended it, default settings included (unless they are flat out wrong or broken). Gnome provides mechanisms and default policies. We just forward them on to you. Besides, upstream's default of 30 min is still much better than leaving your screen on 24hrs/day :) nicer solution: use sabayon. If you believe 30 minutes is utterly wrong, may I suggest you bug upstream :) I already sent it also to upstream: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=509139 But thanks anyway :-) |
