Bug 205126 – x11-base/xorg-x11-7.2 freezes system when loading glx module at startup

After getting GLX support for X11 built and installing compiz-fusion, X.org refuses to start after rebooting my computer. It gives no messages about what caused the error; the log file is blank. I'm not able to reproduce it, except on my computer.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. USE="xcb nptl xprint dri sdl xorg" VIDEO_CARDS="radeon vga vesa" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev mouse keyboard" emerge -av xorg-x11 xorg-server mesa glut
2. *wait patiently for build to complete*
3. startx

Actual Results:  
Keyboard stopped responding, even to Ctrl-Alt-Del. Screen is blank.

Expected Results:  
Should have booted into Xfce4 and started compiz-fusion.

My computer's config: Pentium4 2.0GHz, 1Gb RAM, 250GB ATA/IDE HDD, DVD/CD Writer, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB display card, and a 19" Widescreen Acer VGA/DVI monitor.
