trying to install gentoo linux 1.4rc4 from stage1 I encountered a "m4 required"
error during emerge system in stage2.
workaround is to emerge m4 by hand then restarting emerge system.


Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. try to install gentoo 1.4rc4
2. do emerge system


Actual Results:  
a "m4 is required" message appeared

Expected Results:  
emerge system should have completed successfully
