Well, post some errors please... This workaround is something that's not going to happen; see Bug 185444 Comment #5. There is no error message, nothing in the log. The vmware process just dies. I don't expect you to implement the workaround, but I posted it here so people with the same problem can do it themselves. Shrug; you'd be better off taking this upstream; not much we could fix anyway. (In reply to comment #3) > Shrug; you'd be better off taking this upstream; not much we could fix anyway. > I suspect that taking it upstream won't help a lot, since they will just say that it is because I use Gentoo's library instead of the supplied one. But it is worth a try. Jakob, could you also try re-emerging gtkmm with USE="accessibility" and then re-emerge libview and please try again (without the USE_GTK_SHIPPED variable set)? Thanks... 5:) (In reply to comment #5) > Jakob, could you also try re-emerging gtkmm with USE="accessibility" and then > re-emerge libview and please try again (without the USE_GTK_SHIPPED variable > set)? Thanks... 5:) I had already done that when I was hit by bug 185444. I should of course have written that in my report, sorry about that. To summarize: Initially vmware could not start, it was missing a symbol. Reemerging gtkmm, libview and libsexy solved that, but then it crashed when opening the snapshot manager. Then I tried to set USE_GTK_SHIPPED just to try ig that helped. It did! /Jakob Hmmm, ok. Thanks for testing that out. The reason I'm surprised is that this was a known problem with our early vmware-workstation-6.0.0 releases, but I'm no longer experiencing this problem on my test rig, and believed it to be a symbol problem. It is definitely possible to get the snapshot manager working without forcing the pre-packaged gtk. The main differences between our systems appears to be that you are mixing ~amd64 and amd64 packages, whilst my test rig is currently entirely ~x86. Unfortunately my only suggestion is to try re-emerging various associated packages, and see if running vmware from the console provides any error messages that might lead us to a solution... Hi, I just want to confirm this problem on a (mostly) stable x86 system. Calling the Snapshot Manager crashes VMware Workstation 6.5.0.118166 as well as 6.5.1.126130. I installed 6.5.1.126130 today, re-emerged gtkmm-2.12.7 (with USE="accessibility"), libview-0.6.2, libsexy-0.1.11 and libsexymm-0.1.9 frodo ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.1.6.4 (default/linux/x86/2008.0,
