After installing rivafb in the kernel I can't get a higher res. then 640x480. I
have read a lot of docs on the net, try all of them and nothing works. Your CD
(1.4rc_4) boots it fine into 1280 (x1024) mode. What am I doing wrong ? Using
gentoo-sources(r2)

What vga options are you guys passing on the CD ?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Reboot

Actual Results:  
Screen doesn't switch to 1280x1024

Expected Results:  
Screen should have switched to higher framebuffer mode

try using just vesa vga framebuffer 
 
vga=791            1024x768 
vga=794		  1280x1024 
vga=788	           800x600
