Bug 20375 – Gnome Applet Inbox Monitor is useless

The Inbox Monitor quite stupidly defeats automatic mail checking if it detects
the system is offline.  This means that every user who is disconnected ,whether
by intent by unplugging from a network link, or inadvertently by a dialup 
disconnection, or any other reason, has to reset the automatic checking feature
each and every time.  Computers are supposed to be smarter than that.  If the
applet detects there is no network connection, it should simply not poll the
mail server on that cycle, not run around defeating user preferences.
Especially irritating is the grand announcement that the user preference has
been reset, yet another idiot indicator which itself needs resetting.

Since the comments on this bug (which seems to have been removed from the 
database) indicated great reluctance to fix such an obvious and extremely
easily fixed flaw, it makes one wonder what other garbage code lies around
the source tree, never to be set right.

and what do you want us to do about it? and what bug comments are you talking about? this is a new bug??

don't you think this is a more appropriate bug to bugzilla.gnome.org?

yes what relevant gnome bug are you talking about.

And if it does bother you, why don't you step up and fix it. Isn't that part of what OSS is all about ?

upstream bug which the author seemingly doesn't want to fix (?) not much we can do about it.
