I just noticed today that the svnserve is reported stopped (i did re-emerge subversion with the svnserve use flag) although it is actually running and trying to do /etc/init.d/svnserve restart ot stop/start is no help i just get the two red exclamation marks and nothing else.

Does this work?

killall svnserve
/etc/init.d/svnserve restart

If so, does it then work correctly and report the correct status?

yes, that did the trick, i still wonder what put it in that inconsistent state though
