After installation, vmware group is not created and /etc/vmware-server-console is owned by root group instead of vmware group. Because of this problem, only root can start console. 

Reproducible: Always




Workaround
with root do next
create vmware group.
add user to group
type $ chown -R root:vmware /etc/vmware-server-console
