Bug 197548 – ld segfaults after upgrading to sys-devel/binutils-2.18-r1

After upgrading sys-devel/binutils from 2.17-r1 to 2.18-r1, I get ld segfaults and some packages fail to build. The error message in dmesg is:

it is not useful to say "it crashes"

provide examples, reduced test cases, and/or backtraces with debugging turned on

if you dont know how to do this, there is a guide linked on the front page of our bugzilla which should help

The problem was mainly with openoffice-2.3.0. This time, the build succeeded.

I'm also getting segfaults from the operapluginwrap, of type:

operapluginwrap[13310]: segfault at 000004d6 eip b7d543b0 esp bfc9ce90 error 4

Could this be also related to binutils?

i doubt it ... binutils is rarely used at runtime
