Bug 194090 – sys-boot/grub-1.95 fails emerge during configure (lzo)

After installing a base system on my (3TB virtual) drive, I chrooted into it and attempted to install grub 1.95. This failed with the following error:

checking for __lzo_init_v2 in -llzo2... no
checking for __lzo_init_v2 in -llzo... no
checking for __lzo_init2 in -llzo... no
configure: error: LZO library version 1.02 or later is required

LZO and LZO2 are both installed. The following lines look relevant from the config.log file produced:

I have attempted remerging these packages, and have upgrade my toolchain as well in an attempt to get grub to compile.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install a base system using the 2007.0 minimal install CD.
2. Chroot into the new environment.
3. Attempt to install grub-1.95

Actual Results:  
As above.
