Bug 19338 – Components in Gentoo Linux product not exhaustive

I just filed a bug that apparently lives in xfree-4.3.0-r1, and assigned it to
the KDE component. Somebody thought that was a stupid thing to do, which seems
fair enough, but I didn't find anything more appropriate in the components list
under the product "Gentoo Linux". The other three candidates were:

- Core system (nah; xfree is not included in a standard Gentoo stages install)
- Library (nah; xfree does not strike me as "a library")
- Unspecified (may be least inappropriate, but it just seemed like a copout :) 

The gears of bug submission might run smoother if there were a direct, explicit
mapping from the first level of the portage tree, to the set of components in
the Gentoo Linux product. The "Core system" component already leans that way;
its description says "those in sys-*/". There would probably be fewer incorrect
initial assignments if that mapping were fully defined, i.e. if I could just
look at a table and conclude something like "oh, my problem is in x11-*/, so it
apparently belongs in the X11 component". That would probably involve defining
some more components (e.g. there is currently no X11 component :)

we are working on a way to reorganize development efforts, and bugzilla is key to this. please stand by and see the changes happen ;)

Old, but has not been addressed in any way that I know about!
Has there been any such reorganization of development efforts?

At least it is still just as badly-defined where bugs should
be filed, as it was when I filed this bug.

the herds project is under way right now
