Same account into evo
Evo on mail server
other client

Description Kazankov Alexander 2007-09-21 09:14:37 UTC
I have a working imap/pop server dovecot. Clients work under report IMAP4. mail server incoming mail drops on folders of users /home/${username}/Maildir/. A format of storage of letters on the mail server Maildir.

When I worked with other post clients (for example: tb,sylph), I had following folders: Trash, Spam, etc. Using evo, I have added registration record imap I had 2 folders Trash, Junk and Spam, Sent is just regular folder.

Repeat, and the some folder(For example: native folder Evo "Sent" for current registration record imap.) are not present.

Second part that a Maildir acount:
When I add registration record Maildir and I choose the corresponding folder(/home/${username}/Maildir/) there is a full brothel.

1) There was a folder .#evolution but it is corrected http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318803, but thus if to be connected by other imap client at it it is visible as #evolution.
2) There are folders .Trash, .Spam, .Sent, .Draft, etc. with already existing Trash, Junk, without Sent.
3) If I create a new folder in evo it it is not visible when you use imap client or imap account into evo. Hard. ;)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Run Evo.
Add the maildir or imap account of existing mail.

I have evolution-data-server-1.10.1.3 and evolutio-2.10.3

I don't understand most of what you are trying to explain but at least if 3) is "When I create a folder on the mail server it doesn't automatically appear in evolution" then go to Folder->Subscriptions, select your server and tick the appropriate checkbox.

Could you try to re-explain what your problems are ?

I should also add that is bug sounds very much like something for upstream rather than gentoo. If so, please take this to the evolution mailing list or to the evolution irc channel.

Normal view

This is my normal view. Thus the folder on a server has following layout:
.
..
.Drafts
.Trash
.Sent
cur
new
tmp

Evo on mail server

If I run evo on mail server, I add maildir account also I see again 2 folders Trash, but one of them .Trash.
In addition there is one more folder .#evolution, but about it already spoke here
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318803. With this patch the folder ".#evolution" disappears. But only in Evo.

other client

If in maildir account to create a new folder it it will not be visible in other imap the client. Also is present folder "#evolution".
Even if in evo to add imap account (local (maildir)) at same mail server, but only over imap, looks also.

I in a shock! Unless it is normal?

Ok, this really has nothing to do with gentoo. Evolution uses a different approach to handle Trash. It's a virtual folder showing all messages marked as "To be deleted" on the server. Other clients (notably thunderbird) choose to move these mails to a real folder (being understood that moving is copy/remove old message).

I'll mark this as CANTFIX as it is how upstream chose to represent Trash (and Junk ) and that _can't_ be changed easily at our level. If you want further information about this I suggest you visit the irc channel (but be patient when asking questions, people are often around but doing other things)

and next time, please don't forget to set the correct mime-type for your attachements :)
