Doing a Google search on the error message, I found advice to set the DISPLAY to localhost:0, so as to avoid any direct rendering. Doing this causes a segfault instead of the X error.
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2003-07-03 20:32:15 UTC
this bug only affects software rendering ...
run `llxdoom -opengl` ...
Comment 3 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2003-08-06 18:14:08 UTC
i added a warning about software not working in latest xfree versions ...

this bug will have to die until they release a new version upstream
Comment 4 Mr. Bones. (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-25 12:38:12 UTC
Dunno what this was closed as before. I'll close it as CANTFIX based on
the
comments.
