clear>/etc/issue
edit /etc/issue to add legal warning (or whatever)

explain /etc/motd

I feel that these are best suited to the desktop/security guides rather than the
FAQ,(as what goes in them is likely to be slightly different.)
Comment 2 Antti Sykäri 2002-08-14 17:08:02 UTC
Besides "clear > /etc/issue" is the wrong way. (Then everybody
would get clearing codes in whatever terminal the guy who wrote
that "clear > /etc/issue" was when he wrote it. Not every terminal
interprets these codes the same way.)

A better way, in my opinion, is to include "clear" in
/etc/skel/.bash_logout - then the behavior is also customizable by the
user.

I'll add these points into the relevant guide, (or contact the relevant author
with regards including them).
Comment 5 Sven Vermeulen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-08 05:34:04 UTC
I'll add this to the FAQ.
