networkmanager seems to be designed for a roaming system, attaching to multiple networks at different locations. In order for this to be actually useful for many people, networkmanager needs to support static ip profiles for its wireless and wired interfaces. Clearly this is an upstream issue, but needs to be documented in bugzilla.
