Could you please try deleting the downloaded file and merging again? rm /usr/portage/distfiles/lcms-1.09.tar.gz emerge lcms I tried that several times; both before and after emerge -u world Could you please specify which mirror you are getting the tarball from ? It seems that the mirror might have a corrupt file. please close. I had forgotten to update my make.conf file. Once done the problem went away. sorry to bother you. ok, great. thanks.
