Same problem - cups was not working, in logs:
[CGI] /usr/lib/cups/daemon/cups-deviced: No such file or directory
after investigation I figured out that
/usr/lib/cups was missing

I have fixed problem by symlinking to
/usr/libexec/cups

Cups refuses to allow any access to the web interface from KDE 3.5.5/Firefox 2.0.05



Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:  
KDE print manager can't restart/access cups server, firefox/konq can't find cups server (according to /etc/init.d/cupsd is running).

Expected Results:  
page access to configure running cups

Performed emerge -e world and then checked with revdep-rebuild. All consistent according to both.
