I'm thinking from some days on how should I answer to this request of fixing the dependancies on the old and obsolete 0.5.44 xmltv, unfortunately the last marked stable (also for semi-fake bugreports as bug #188607 that tend to slow-down the stabilizing process). Unfortunately most of the users are bound to always update xmltv to latest version as : 1) scripts need to be fixed and 2) webpages change so scripts need to be fixed. Gentoo policy would be to suggest users to use stable packages, expecially if they are on stable branch, however I can't do this for xmltv, it's not serious to backport the whole scripts fixes (as I already said, a version bump is 99% scripts fixes, so an huge work would be required and the result would be almost exactly the new version). Thus said, almost any try to stabilize an xmltv release comes too late, in a month or two the webpages are already changed and some grabber is already obsolete. My guess was from the start that xmltv should have no stable packages (never) but this is an issue as some other packages are depending on xmltv. I accept any kind of suggestions except the backportings of the fixes (it really doesn't make sense), so if someone please has an idea on how this should be managed, please tell it. Sounds like WONTFIX. |
