Just updated php from 5.2.2-r1 to 5.2.3-r3 and stable apache only served blank pages (static files were still delivered properly though).
Reverting to php-5.2.2-r1 "fixed" the issue.

Just in case that it does matter (again :-/ ), I'm also running dev-util/subversion-1.3.2-r4.
