Description Toon Wijnands 2007-07-19 09:37:01 UTC
InstallCD and LiveCD are lacking support for my USB ADSL modem: Speedtouch Alcatel/Thomsom version 0 (the green one):

1. Firmware is missing:
USB device and modem are correctly detected, however firmware drivers are not available.
The workaround for this is follow the instructions under
http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/gentoo/ (under firmware)
and compile the firmware yourself. Cp to /lib/firmware and plugin the modem again.

2. My provider uses ATM over PPP. The library pppoatm.so is missing on the therefore you are unable to make a connection.

I would recommend adding this to the installÇD's which will give a better user experience.

See package: net-dialup/speedtouch-usb

It's probably "iffy" to redistribute the firmware on CD, as previously mentioned in bug #89863.

Agree as far as the firmware is concerned. Didn't realise their were commercial rights on it.
Anyhow, I still think ATM support should be included on the installCD. Lots of ADSL providers use ATM over PPP.

PPPoA support is fully added to SVN now...
