Hi!
In Bug 171551 there was some segmantion faults with openssl-0.9.8d and use flag zlib.

This seems solved in openssl-0.9.8e and zlib. i don't get any more segmentaion faults.

should we remove this from ejabberd ebuild?

Agreed, we should. Nothing is as annoying as an ebuild throwing a die-message because it doesn't like a dependency. Working on a 1.1.3-r2 ebuild right now. I've noticed your other report as well, the sname USE-flag is being removed.
